Carbon Reduction Plan

Supplier name: Sterimed Medical Implants UK Ltd Publication date: 30th January 2025
Date of last review: 30th January 2025

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Sterimed Medical Implants UK Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2032.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

We are implementing our carbon reduction strategy through two key sustainability programmes – ‘Decoupling our Carbon’ and ‘Going Circular’. We are committed to aligning our operations to achieve “The Carbon Trust Route to Net Zero” which will validate that we are delivering against our near-term science-based targets to reach Net Zero.

We are setting our net zero 2024 baseline, to capture our overall business impact, including business travel, operations and all related activity impact.

Baseline Year: 2023-2024

Additional details relating to the baseline emissions calculations.

Our Baseline emissions are a record of the GHG emissions that we have produced in the past, prior to the introduction of our strategies to reduce emissions from 2024. They act as a reference point against which emissions reduction can and will be measured.

Baseline year emissions:

EMISSIONS

TOTAL (tCO2e)

Scope 1 - emissions are direct greenhouse gas emissions that

occur from sources that are controlled or owned by Sterimed

Medical Implants UK Ltd.

We only have two staff, both of which work remotely from

home and are not required to commute or drive to meetings

(as per our environmental measures all meetings take place

online). The below mileage is for our Managing Director for

minimal client and supply chain visits, meetings, audits, and

inspections.

1.  MD mileage (electric car) (200 miles) 800kWh(0.212)

0.1696

2. Office working electricity 2,000kWh(0.212)

0.424

3.  Office working heating (gas) 8,000kWh(0.183)

1.464

Scope 2 - emissions are indirect greenhouse gas emissions associated with the purchase of electricity, steam, heat, or cooling. They are accounted for by Sterimed Medical Implants UK Ltd.

1.  Office based purchased electricity 200kWh(0.212)

0.0424

Scope 3 - emissions include all sources not within an organisation’s scope 1 and 2 boundary. Scope 3 emissions often represent the majority of an organisation’s total greenhouse gas emissions (Included Sources).

The additional / Scope 3 emissions associated with our service are derived from manufacture, logistics, storage and delivery. We only select partners and suppliers that adhere to the environmental standards we expect and adhere to ourselves. We confirm all such partners have at least ISO 14001. The emissions associated with these activities depends on the quantity and type of goods ordered, delivery requirements / timeframes etc.

Total Emissions

Scope 1 and 2 = 2.1

+ Scope 3 dependent on the types and quantities of goods required.

Current Emissions Reporting

Reporting Year: Jan-2024 - Jan-2025

EMISSIONS

TOTAL (tCO2e)

Scope 1 -

1. MD mileage (electric car) (150 miles) 800kWh(0.212)

0.1272

- There is little we can do to minimise carbon emissions any

further, we have however reduced the MD mileage by 25%

by insisting on environmentally friendly ways of

communication, such as videocall, rather than in-person

meetings, wherever possible.

2. Office working electricity 2,000kWh(0.212)

0.424

3. Office working heating (gas) 8,000kWh(0.183)

1.464

Scope 2 - Office based purchased electricity 200kWh(0.212)

0.0424

Scope 3 - Our aim throughout 25/26 is to work with suppliers and manufacturers to identify all Scope 3 emissions.

The Scope 3 emissions associated with our service are derived from manufacture, logistics, storage and delivery.

Scope 1 and 2 = 2.0576 + Scope 3 dependent on the types and quantities of goods required.

Emissions Reduction Targets

We have committed to becoming net zero by 2032, with near-term targets, validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative, in line with a 1.5-degree scenario. This means that we have reset our baseline year to 2024.

Our commitment involves halving our operational footprint by 2028 against the new 2023 baseline, and strengthening the way we embed climate action into our supplier engagement (we already require all suppliers and subcontractors to have at least ISO 14001 or equivalent, have a documented Carbon Reduction Plan, and commitment to achieving net-zero by 2040), our client services and our market advocacy.

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets:

Our Scope 1 and 2 emissions are already at a low level due to only having two staff members, and directly carrying out only office based activities remotely from home; we do not have an office or require staff to commute or go to in-person meetings (all meetings are carried out online). However, we project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next six years to 75% tCO2e by 2030.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been selected for implemented from the 2024 baseline.

Energy Management

Our energy management programme will focus on consolidating and refreshing energy savings within our office space, operating more efficiently, and investing in new technology. We will invest in LED lighting, water waste reduction and putting on devices only when required for use.

Technology

This year, we will work with suppliers and internal service owners to perform a carbon impact assessment of our technology, covering hardware, hosting platforms, HR and reporting platforms. This will inform our future technology strategy. We will explore devices with technologies for auto switch on and off and energy savings. We will also review other opportunities to reduce household (as staff work from home) emissions and utilities, such as installing solar panels and other emission reducing systems.

Employee Engagement

As part of our net zero ambition, we know it’s crucial to bring our people along on the journey. This means training, raising awareness and enabling our people to build a confident understanding of today’s growing ESG agenda and inspiring them to play their part.

We will have nominated Environmental and Sustainability Champions as part of our operations network.

Business Travel

We are a people business and so building and maintaining relationships and working alongside our clients, is key to our delivery of quality services. We will continue to carry out all meetings online and via telephone. We have also replaced work vehicles with low emission electric vehicles and will continue to review all vehicles and equipment and prioritise low emission options.

Suppliers

To tackle impacts beyond our direct operations, we will ensure our supply chain embraces and have in place Carbon Reduction Plans, policies and commitments. We will buy from responsible, sustainable, green companies and hold suppliers accountable for their own net zero journey. We require all supply chain partners to have at least ISO 14001.

Standards

We plan to obtain and implement ISO 14001 this year. Offsetting schemes

We will explore carbon offsetting schemes to further reduce our net impact this year.

Declaration and Sign Off
